I was staring over the side of the boat

Looking for pufferfish or dancing dolphins.

I could sit there for hours,

No food, no movement, just calm contemplation.

Then I saw you in the water,

A beautiful face, glitter ball eyes.

I felt my heart leap in my chest

As your seductive song reached my ears.

Like prime Dusty or perfect Aretha

I had to hear more.

I had to feel this primal power

I swear I saw you beckon me in.

I tossed myself from the Schooner

Diving down, hungry to get close to you.

As I took my last breath, too far under to be saved,

I gazed a final look at a sodden granite statue.
