The Metallica Blacklist is a celebration of 30 years of the self-titled Metallica record that sent them into the stratosphere. I still consider it their finest record and I say that as someone who had all the records before it before grabbing Black on day one.
Now the band has all kinds of artists covering the tracks for the Blacklist project, some like Ghost covering Enter Sandman are sure to be excellent, but not too far removed from their day jobs. (looking forward to Weezer’s take on that same song too) Others are set to surprise, like Miley’s excellent Nothing Else Matters, which is all Stevie Nicks growling and Elton John plays alongside. Add St Vincent to that list who takes on my favourite song on the record, Sad But True, which you can listen to below and pick up right now. Every song’s profits go to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and the charity of the artist’s choice, St. Vincent choosing the North Texas Food Bank.
Excellent work all around. Can we have a St Vincent / Trent Reznor collaborator album now, thank you, please.
