I guess I discovered BJ Thomas after Manic Street Preachers covered his classic Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, which also led me to the brilliance of Bacharach and David, of course.

Aside from Raindrops, his material went from upbeat pop to downbeat country, from Hooked On A Feeling to I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry. I usually find myself spinning him in the same sessions as Willie Nelson or Leonard Cohen, not so much a party artist (although as I mentioned there are some joyous moments, such as the iconic Hooked On A Feeling) as a singer songwriter for those late night moments.

Godspeed, sir, thank you for the music.
