The girl is flat out,
Dreaming a dream on warm leatherette.
The vibrations of the car
A sweet tugging lullaby.
Her friend sings along to the CD,
A little Le Tigre for the long road.
Drumming on the wheel,
Wind in her hair,
Skimming on the tarmac,
Like an automotive skater.
Cruising through the green light,
Truck jumped a red
And crushed our travellers.
Car becomes accordian,
The cracking of bones the accompaniment.
A spray of blood flies.
Windshield shatters.
Airbags diffuse,
Too late, too late
As a head rolls out onto the road.
Truck explodes,
Journey’s end.
Journey’s end.
