Festival Number Six arrived last year with New Order headlining and had Prisoner and music fans celebrating both the atmosphere and the geography – the event takes place at Portmeirion, which is of course where McGoohan recorded the classic TV show, although rumours that Rover forces you to watch the rubbish bands are merely rumour as we go to press.
This year Manic Street Preachers are headlining, ending their self imposed (love’s sweet) exile to headline at the event. Of course, MSP have history with Portmeirion, shooting the cover of the This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours album there in 1998. Now they return on the fifteenth anniversary (!!!) of the album.
Nicky Wire commented : “Festival No.6 is the only thing that could break our self-enforced two year British gig ban. To be able to play in Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ iconic village is something of a dream for us. See you in September.”
Many other bands are still to be announced for the event, but Everything Everything and Caitlin Rose are the highlights of those already announced. Outside of music there are some other treats to be discovered, icon John Cooper Clarke makes a welcome appearance, following on from excellent performance in Ben Drew’s Ill Manors movie. Also confirmed are Tracey Thorn, Bob Stanley, Paul Morley and Caitlin Moran.
Festival No.6 takes place on September 13-15th.
