Waiting outside your house
Standing on noodle legs
Trying to look dignified.
Check my tie in a puddle’s distorted reflection
Run a plastic comb through my heavily moussed hair.
I try to practice my best smile
But I look goofy – always goofy.
Switch on the serious look.
Much better.
Run through conversations you’ll enjoy
No blessed silence on this date
I want to know everything
I want to reveal all to you.
You come out laughing
Holding a small dog on a leash.
He barks at me and you smile
I blush and quickly scurry.
After that smile I wonder…
Maybe tomorrow we could talk?
